Tunisian Minister of Agriculture Highlights Investment Opportunities in Modern Technologies
The Tunisian Minister of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries, Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh, stated that the Tunisian investment law offers significant benefits to projects that adopt modern technologies, which can reach up to 50% of the investment value. During the 46th session of the Arab Union of Agricultural Engineers Conference, he emphasized that these significant incentives make Tunisia an attractive destination for startups operating in the fields of smart irrigation, renewable energy, and smart agriculture, according to data published by the ministry. The Minister stressed that agriculture is no longer a traditional sector, but has become a vast space for the application of modern technologies, artificial intelligence, digitization, and remote sensing. He highlighted the central role of agricultural engineering in establishing sustainable production models, improving the productivity of natural resources, reducing food waste, and strengthening the resilience of Arab agricultural systems.
Arab Union of Agricultural Engineers Conference
The 46th session of the Arab Union of Agricultural Engineers Conference was organized by the Tunisian Order of Engineers under the theme: "Arab integration in encouraging available agricultural resources and its role in achieving Arab food security," with the participation of representatives from Arab and international organizations and delegations of agricultural engineers from various Arab countries. This event represents an opportunity to strengthen Arab cooperation in the field of agricultural engineering, particularly at a time when the Arab world is facing major challenges related to food security, climate change, water scarcity, and ecological system degradation.
National Mechanisms and Programs to Encourage Agricultural Investment
On this occasion, Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh presented national mechanisms and programs aimed at encouraging agricultural investment and supporting the entrepreneurial spirit among young people. These include:
- Agricultural business incubators (spaces dedicated to accompanying project holders, from idea to realization, under the supervision of the Agricultural Investment Promotion Agency)
- Accompaniment mechanism for the modernization of agricultural farms and improvement of their productivity
- Increasing the attractiveness of the sector
- National competition for innovative solutions to support innovation and develop intelligent technical solutions to help the agricultural sector
Cooperation and Recommendations
The Minister praised the role of the Tunisian Order of Engineers and its willingness to strengthen the bridges of Arab professional cooperation and put its expertise at the service of agricultural and engineering unions in various Arab countries, in order to develop joint projects that consolidate sustainable development and food security, and valorize young engineering talents from the Gulf to the Ocean, according to the statement. He emphasized that the expected recommendations from the conference must be transformed into actionable plans adopted by professional structures, governments, and scientific research centers, in order to support the quality of Arab food, improve the management of natural resources, and raise the standard of living of farmers and all actors in the sector.
