Maria Corina Machado: A Venezuelan Opposition Leader Awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
Maria Corina Machado, a Venezuelan opposition leader, has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize "for her tireless work in favor of the democratic rights of the Venezuelan people and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy," according to a statement from the Norwegian Nobel Committee.
Machado immediately dedicated her prize "to the suffering people of Venezuela" and to the American President. "Citing this tribute to the struggle of all Venezuelans strengthens our mission: to conquer freedom," Machado wrote on X. She added: "We are on the threshold of victory, and today more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our main allies to achieve freedom and democracy. I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support for our cause!"
