US Embassy in Tunis Announces Resumption of Normal Operations

The US Embassy in Tunis has announced that, thanks to cooperation between American and Tunisian officials, the public notice issued yesterday, Friday, December 5, 2025, announcing the adoption of a limited work program starting from December 8, 2025, has been cancelled.

Resumption of Visa Interviews and Consular Services

The Embassy confirmed that all visa interviews, routine consular services, and other emergency services are now available. Visa appointments and appointments for American citizen services that had been cancelled will be rescheduled. The Embassy invites affected individuals to wait to be contacted for the new scheduling of their appointments.

Registration for Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)

The Embassy also urged American travelers to register for the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive consular alerts during their travel abroad. To register, they can visit the website: https://mytravel.state.gov/s/step

Resolution of Issues and Normal Operations

An informed source within the US Embassy in Tunis specified that, thanks to coordination between American and Tunisian officials, the issues that were supposed to hinder the normal functioning of the US Embassy have been resolved. This allows the Embassy to pursue its usual activities, including the provision of all routine and emergency consular services. All visa interviews or other routine consular appointments that had been suspended will be rescheduled.

Commitment to Responsibilities and Compliance with Laws

The source added that the US Embassy honors its responsibilities, in collaboration with the Tunisian government, to fully comply with American and Tunisian laws, including the Tunisian Labor Code.
