Ismailia, Egypt - May 10, 2023

The Egyptian city of Ismailia, hosting the African Senior Weightlifting Championships until May 17, came alive on Wednesday with the impressive performances of Tunisian weightlifters. Eya Aouadi made a notable mark by securing three bronze medals in the 58 kg category.

A Fierce Continental Podium

Competing in a highly competitive category, Eya Aouadi demonstrated great consistency. She first lifted 81 kg in the snatch event, followed by a 107 kg barbell in the clean and jerk. These performances allowed her to climb to the third step of the podium with a total of 188 kg.

The category was dominated by Nigerian Rafiatu Lawal, who was crowned triple African champion, while Egyptian Noura Issam Helmy took the silver medal in front of her home crowd.

Tunisia's Medal Count Reaches Six

This bronze haul adds to the Tunisian delegation's medal count, which now stands at six. On the opening day on Tuesday, Mayssa Khadraoui had set the tone in the 48 kg category, securing two silver medals (78 kg in the clean and jerk and 137 kg in the total) and a bronze medal in the snatch with a 59 kg barbell.

The rest of the national team's competition is expected to be intense. For the men, hopes are pinned on Aman Allah Al-Brini, Idriss Al-Warthi, Amine Bouhajba, Ayoub Salem, and heavyweight Aymen Bacha.

The women's team is represented by a solid collective, including the already mentioned medalists, as well as Tasnim Ben Ouada, Israa El Bejaoui, Chaima Rahmouni, Jawaher El Guesmi, Aya Hosni, and Zineb Ennaoui. The Tunisian athletes will strive to confirm this positive dynamic in the upcoming days of competition.
