57th Annual General Assembly of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA)

At the 57th Annual General Assembly of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA), held in Luanda, Angola from November 30 to December 2, 2025, Mrs. Halima Ibrahim Khouaja, General Director of Tunisair, was elected as the First Vice-President of the Association. This prestigious election is a testament to the leading position of the Tunisian national airline and highlights its active role in the development of African air transport. It also consolidates its presence at the regional, continental, and international levels.

Assembly Overview

This year's Assembly, organized by TAAG Angola Airlines, brought together a wide range of decision-makers from the sector, including government and diplomatic officials, leaders of civil aviation authorities, regulatory bodies, and industrial partners from across Africa and around the world. The proceedings centered around the theme: "Redefining African Aviation: Cooperation, Sustainability, and Strategic Growth".

Annual Report and Key Discussions

On this occasion, the AFRAA's 2025 annual report presented the main performance indicators of the sector. This document highlighted the evolution of air traffic, fleet performance, market shares, visa and mobility policies, as well as progress made in implementing the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM). The debates also focused on strategic issues, including the reorganization of African airlines in the face of current challenges and the role of hubs in improving intra-African connectivity, illustrated by a case study on the transformation of Angola's civil aviation.

AFRAA's Commitment

This 57th session reaffirmed AFRAA's commitment to developing an integrated African air transport sector through policy harmonization and promoting sustainable growth. It is worth noting that AFRAA was founded in 1968 in Accra and currently federates 50 airlines, representing over 85% of the continent's international air traffic. The Association also has 35 partners from the fields of manufacturing, supply, technological solutions, and other non-aviation institutions. (According to a press release)
