Tunisia Falls to Egypt in U-17 AFCON Match

The Tunisian national team suffered a 1-2 defeat at the hands of their Egyptian counterparts in the second day of Group A matches in the first round of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, which is being held in Morocco from May 13 to June 2.

The team coached by Abderrazek Hedider took the lead in the 11th minute through a penalty kick by Moncef Thabeti. However, the Egyptian team equalized in the 42nd minute through a penalty kick by Mohamed Jamel. Amir Abou El Ezz sealed the win for Egypt in the 89th minute.

Tunisian player Yahya Jlaidi was awarded the best player of the match.

In the same day's schedule, the Moroccan team will face their Ethiopian counterparts on Saturday at 20:00 on Field 8 of the Mohammed VI Complex.

Following this result, the Tunisian team's score remains stuck at one point, after their 1-1 draw against Morocco in the first day. The Egyptian team, on the other hand, has accumulated four points, following their 0-0 draw against Ethiopia in the first day.

The Tunisian team, led by captain Mohamed Dghrour, will conclude their first-round matches against the Ethiopian team on Tuesday, May 19 at 20:00 on Field 11 of the Mohammed VI Complex.

It is worth noting that the top two teams from each of the four groups will qualify for the quarterfinals, securing their automatic spot in the World Cup scheduled to take place in Qatar from November 19 to December 13, 2026. The four teams that finish third in the group stage will compete in a two-match playoff, with the winners joining the list of qualified teams, bringing the total number of African representatives to 10.
