Africa Day Celebrations: Diplomats Unite for Friendly Football Match and Cultural Exchange

As part of the Africa Day celebrations, held annually on May 25th, a friendly football match took place yesterday at Olympia Sky, pitting African diplomats accredited in Tunisia against the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs team.

This year's edition, themed "Ensuring Sustainable Access to Clean Water and Sanitation Systems to Achieve Agenda 2063 Goals," kicked off with a solemn and fraternal atmosphere, marked by the rendition of the Tunisian and African Union national anthems. The Congolese and Gabonese delegations then took center stage, hosting a relay race and showcasing traditional African dances that added a festive and warm touch to the event.

The friendly match was accompanied by African music and dance performances, with a choreographed routine that left the guests and spectators in awe. In the end, the African diplomats emerged victorious with a score of 2-1.

The celebrations will continue on Monday at the Radisson Blu Hotel & Convention Center Tunis, where African cuisine will take center stage, accompanied by traditional African music and dance performances.

Notable attendees include Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Ali Nafti, and the Dean of African Ambassadors, Her Excellency Nsang Ndong Nsuga Gertrudis, Ambassador of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea to Tunisia. As she concludes her tenure in Tunisia, Ambassador Nsang expressed her gratitude and will cherish the memories of her time in the country.

The event was attended by ambassadors and diplomatic representatives from several African countries, including Cameroon, Algeria, Morocco, Gabon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso, Sudan, Mauritania, and Mali, as well as high-ranking officials and members of the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs cabinet.
