A New Player in the New Energy Vehicle Segment Enters the Tunisian Market

A new actor in the new energy vehicle segment has officially entered the Tunisian market, illustrating the growing interest of automotive manufacturers in energy transition in the country. This arrival comes in a context marked by public incentive measures in favor of electric mobility and emission reduction.

The announcement was made on February 5th in Tunis, during a ceremony organized on the occasion of the opening of a new showroom in La Charguia 1. On this occasion, Italcar, a leading multi-brand automotive distributor, announced the official launch of the DEEPAL brand on the Tunisian market and presented three distinct models introduced for the first time on the local market, all based on an electric architecture with extended range.

Presented Vehicles

The presented vehicles stand out for their uses and technical characteristics. The first model, an all-wheel-drive SUV, is oriented towards versatility and performance, with dual electric motorization and capabilities adapted to long-distance travel. The other two models, positioned in the compact SUV segment, prioritize energy efficiency, urban driving, and comfort, with notable differences in terms of power, dimensions, and technological equipment. This diversity aims to meet varied needs, ranging from daily commutes to more intensive uses.

All models rely on a technology combining a primary electric motorization and a thermal engine used exclusively as a generator, allowing for high combined autonomy while maintaining predominantly electric use. This configuration is presented as a response to the constraints related to charging infrastructure.

Launch Commentary

Commenting on this launch, Mr. Kais Krima, General Manager of Italcar, stated: "We are particularly happy to introduce, for the first time on the Tunisian market, three vehicles equipped with REEV technology, electric vehicles integrating a thermal engine serving only as an autonomy extender. This technology provides a concrete response to users' concerns, particularly in terms of electric recharging."

International Approach

On its side, the international parent company highlights an approach focused on intelligent mobility, integrating advanced driver assistance systems, connected digital interfaces, and equipment oriented towards comfort and safety. The stated objective is to offer solutions adapted to both urban commutes and long-distance travel.

Although new to the Tunisian market, the brand relies on the industrial expertise and research and development capabilities of a major international automotive group, with a global network of engineering centers.

Market Context

This introduction also follows recent government decisions aimed at encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles, including the reduction of VAT and the alleviation of registration taxes. It testifies to the progressive evolution of the Tunisian market towards more diversified and technologically advanced mobility solutions, which are expected to play a growing role in the years to come.
