Minister of Equipment and Housing Announces Operational Dates for Tunis-Jelma Highway Lots

The Minister of Equipment and Housing, Slah Zouari, announced on Wednesday that lots 3 and 4 of the Tunis-Jelma highway will be operational in 2027. This statement was made during a field visit to the Zaghouan governorate, where the overall progress of the project has reached nearly 35%.

Zouari emphasized the need to respect contractual deadlines and accelerate the pace of work, calling on the companies in charge of the project to implement a clear operational strategy to overcome technical and logistical challenges. He requested the mobilization of all available material and human resources to ensure progress in line with commitments.

Project Details

During his visit, Zouari inspected lot 3, which connects Fahs to Nadhour, spanning 27 km with two lanes in each direction, the Fahs interchange, 8 overpasses, 5 underpasses, a major hydraulic structure, and 64 hydraulic works. Lot 4, which connects Nadhour to Sbikha over a similar distance, includes the Nadhour interchange, 8 overpasses, 4 underpasses, two major hydraulic structures, and 39 complementary works.

Overall Project Scope

The overall Tunis-Jelma highway project spans 186 km from Ben Arous, crossing the governorates of Zaghouan, Kairouan, and Sidi Bouzid. Divided into eight lots, it represents an investment of approximately 1.7 billion dinars, aiming to strengthen connectivity between the capital and interior regions to stimulate economic growth and support regional development.
