Tunisia's Mongi Slim University Hospital Leads the Way in Medical Innovation
The Mongi Slim University Hospital in La Marsa, Tunisia, has positioned itself at the forefront of medical innovation. On September 19, the Minister of Health, Mustapha Ferjani, officially inaugurated new care units, including a dedicated center for traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). This event, which took place in the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, Wan Li, marks a decisive step for the Tunisian healthcare system.
Alternative Medicine at the Service of Tunisians
The new training center, born out of a partnership between the Mongi Slim Hospital and China, will enable Tunisian doctors to deepen their knowledge of acupuncture. As emphasized by Dr. Ahmed Laatar, a specialist in rheumatology, this ambitious project aims to train healthcare professionals in TCM techniques, a therapeutic system that prioritizes non-pharmacological practices. Tunisia is not new to this field: since 1994, nearly 200 specialist doctors in acupuncture have already been trained in the country.
Modernization and Improvement of Care: A Strategic Investment
The inauguration was not limited to TCM. A significant part of the hospital's infrastructure has been modernized to improve the patient experience. Key improvements include:
- Emergency Service: The first phase of its renovation has been completed at a cost of 1.9 million dinars.
- Medical Imaging: A new MRI service has been put into operation (5 million dinars), integrating artificial intelligence technologies for an additional investment of 400,000 dinars, to ensure faster and more accurate diagnoses.
These investments demonstrate the Tunisian state's willingness to strengthen its healthcare infrastructure and offer higher-quality care, whether it's emergency care, liver transplantation, or prevention of cerebrovascular accidents (CVAs).
The Mongi Slim University Hospital's commitment to innovation and improvement is a significant step forward for the Tunisian healthcare system, and its partnership with China is expected to bring numerous benefits to the country's medical sector.
