National Council for Packaged Olive Oil Adopts 2026 Program
The National Council for Packaged Olive Oil, which met on Monday, adopted the components of the 2026 program, aiming to continue the national effort to promote Tunisian olive oil and conquer new promising markets, such as Asian, Latin American, Russian, and Saudi markets. The program also aims to strengthen the positioning of Tunisian packaged olive oil on markets where it is already commercialized.
Meeting Overview
The meeting, held under the presidency of the Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, Fatma Thabet Chiboub, announced the organization of the national competition for the best packaged olive oil for the 2025-2026 season.
Support for Startups
The council meeting, which brought together various stakeholders in the sector, also discussed a specific program to promote startups in the export of this vital product, enabling them to develop their export capacities, accompany them in preparing market access plans, and support them in promotion, commercial implantation, and obtaining necessary certifications.
Public Promotion Program
The council will also monitor the achievements of the public advertising and promotion program of public interest entitled "Year 2025".
Inter-Ministerial Coordination
Emphasis was placed on coordination with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Trade, and Agriculture to promote packaged olive oil.
Minister's Statement
The Minister praised the efforts made by the public and private sectors, which contributed to the valorization of Tunisian packaged olive oil, highlighting the increase in its exports, from 1.3 thousand tons in the 2006-2007 season to 42.2 thousand tons in the 2024-2025 season.
Production and Export Projections
She added that the 2025-2026 season is expected to record a production of 500 thousand tons of oil, an increase of around 47% compared to the previous season, in addition to the export of 300 thousand tons of this vital raw material.
Promoting Exports
The Minister stressed the importance of further promoting packaged olive oil exports within a participatory approach between all parties concerned, recalling that priority is given to this strategic sector, particularly through the decisions taken by the restricted Council of Ministers on October 25, 2025, with the aim of promoting Tunisia as a country of origin of high-quality packaged olive oil, in accordance with the standards of the International Olive Council.
