Tunisia Unveils Futuristic Agricultural Production and Distribution Project

The Tunisian Ministry of Commerce has unveiled a cutting-edge agricultural production and distribution project in Sidi Bouzid, a central region in the country. This ambitious project is considered "strategic" due to its significant economic, social, and environmental impact, as well as its potential to create jobs and promote agricultural products. The project aligns with the country's vision for "Tunisia 2030".
This innovative project is the first of its kind in Tunisia and Africa, focusing on the agro-food and agro-industry sectors. It is part of 35 interconnected platforms worldwide. Spanning over 70 hectares, the project aims to bridge the gap between producers and markets by reducing distribution channels, promoting agricultural products in their region of origin, organizing the export of agricultural products, facilitating access to markets for small-scale farmers, and developing entrepreneurial culture based on innovation among small farmers.
The project features a range of facilities, including:
- A market for agricultural products
- A livestock market
- An integrated red meat complex consisting of an abattoir, a meat processing unit, and a packaging and sorting unit
- An agro-food complex
- A research and development unit
- A logistics base, etc.
The project is currently in the external development phase, with authorities working to connect it to electricity, water, telecommunications, and sanitation networks. Meanwhile, the internal development phase is underway, with authorities selecting a consulting firm to oversee technical follow-up, general development studies, and tender preparation.
Additionally, the Ministry of Commerce is considering increasing the capital of the Société des marchés de production du centre (Somaproc) to attract potential investors. This project is part of several pilot projects aimed at modernizing distribution circuits.
