Tunis Court Sentences Seven Individuals to 17 Years in Prison for Cybercrime
The criminal chamber of the Tunis Court of First Instance has sentenced a network of seven individuals, including two women, to 17 years in prison for hacking into bank cards, financial accounts, and computer systems, as well as for blackmailing their owners.
According to a judicial source cited by Diwan FM, the defendants were found guilty of:
- Forming and belonging to a criminal organization aimed at harming people and property
- Manipulating computer data
- Compromising computer systems to obtain material or economic benefits
They were also convicted of:
- Selling, distributing, and possessing computer programs designed to compromise system security
- Using technical means to hack into communication data
The court additionally imposed a fine of over 40,000 dinars on the members of the network.
