Aïd el-Adha: A Major Islamic Holiday
Aïd el-Adha, also known as Aïd el-Kébir, commemorates the sacrifice of Abraham and is one of the major festivals in Islam. The celebrations typically last for several days and involve the traditional ritual sacrifice.
Guidelines for the Sacrifice in France
In a statement, the CFCM outlined the conditions governing the sacrifice in France. The sacrifice must be performed exclusively by authorized slaughterers in permanent or temporary abattoirs approved by French authorities. The CFCM emphasized that slaughtering outside authorized structures is strictly prohibited and constitutes a penal offense. Additionally, the possession of animals intended for sacrifice by individuals not declared as breeders is also prohibited.
Sacrifice Guidelines
The CFCM specified that the sacrifice primarily concerns sheep, with one animal per family, as well as cattle, which can be shared among up to seven families. The operations must comply with sanitary norms, animal protection rules, and environmental regulations in force.
Respect for the Law
The CFCM appeals to the faithful to strictly respect the legal framework to ensure the smooth celebration of this religious holiday in accordance with the laws of the Republic.
