The Director-General of the Grand Tunis Urban Planning Agency, Mongi Arfaoui, announced on Monday, December 15, 2025, that the study on the Master Plan for Urban Mobility in Grand Tunis, being carried out in cooperation with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), includes a survey of households regarding individual mobility. This study features a questionnaire on the transportation modes used by Tunisian families. Present during a radio broadcast on National Radio, he added that this questionnaire will be launched in January next year and will concern 7,000 Tunisian families selected according to scientific criteria, in collaboration with the National Institute of Statistics (INS) and with the approval of the Higher Council of Statistics. Mr. Arfaoui continued by indicating that this survey will enable the determination of needs in the field of individual mobility. Based on these results, a series of decisions will be made, whether to strengthen school transportation services for students, to free up sidewalks for pedestrians, or to implement new mechanisms and legislation if necessary. He emphasized that in addition to this survey, other questionnaires will be prepared, including a survey on goods transport and logistics and another on city entrances. He confirmed that, for the first time in Tunisia, mobile phone chips will be used during field surveys, while preserving confidentiality and protecting personal data. The guest on the show specified that the governance of these studies will be ensured by a committee composed of the Japanese side, bringing together 18 experts in various specialties, and will be validated by a commission under the supervision of the Minister of Equipment and Housing, and composed of senior state officials. He added that the Master Plan for Urban Mobility will take the form of project sheets intended to address transportation and mobility problems in Grand Tunis in an effective and objective manner, in his words.
