5th Edition of Multidisciplinary Doctoriales at the University of La Manouba

From October 20 to 24, the City of Sciences in Tunis hosted the 5th edition of the Multidisciplinary Doctoriales of the University of La Manouba (UMA), a major scientific and academic event held this year under the theme: "Living Tomorrow: Committing, Adapting, Changing..."

A Pluridisciplinary Program Focused on the Future

For five days, participants discovered a rich and interactive program combining conferences, practical workshops, training sessions, debates, scientific visits, and project presentations or pitching. The opening day was marked by an inaugural session with the participation of the President of the UMA, Pr Ameur Cherif, and the Director General of Research Valorization at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (Mesr), Mr. Helmi Merdessi. This was followed by expected conferences, led by notable figures such as Ferid Belhaj, former Vice-President of the World Bank for the Mena region, Maher Gassab (Esct), Nejib Boulaâres (Atodd), and Chedly Abdelli (Anpr).

The following days were dedicated to scientific training, including the "Bibliometrix Masterclass" with Pr Foued Ben Saïd, "Soft skills" workshops (which provide the audience with communication tools) that highlighted the collaborative and critical spirit of entrepreneurial sessions with the partner Impact Partner "Think like an Entrepreneur", as well as an in-depth exploration of the links between research, sustainable development, AI, and heritage. The doctoral students also worked in teams on projects integrating the "Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)" which they presented at the end of the week during a scientific competition.

Engaged Research, Involved Youth

The Doctoriales are not limited to academic reflection: they also offer a space for citizen engagement, responsible innovation, and interdisciplinary openness. The speakers addressed various themes: climate change, environmental governance, ethics of artificial intelligence, green libraries, digital humanities, among others. Student initiatives such as the Green UMA Club were also programmed and testified to the growing involvement of young researchers in ecological and societal transitions.

A Promising Conclusion

The week ended on Friday, October 24, 2025, with the presentation of the doctoral students' projects, evaluated by a jury chaired by Mr. Aslan Berjeb, President of Conect Tunisia. The best projects were rewarded during a closing ceremony chaired by Pr Azza Frikha, Vice-President of the UMA. The University of La Manouba reaffirms its commitment to scientific reflection, innovative training, and its role as a catalyst for change. The 2025 Doctoriales are an ambitious event that brings together science, commitment, and creativity in the service of tomorrow's society.
