2nd Edition of the Tunisian National Theater Festival: "Les Saisons de la Création"
The Tunisian National Theater (TNT) organized a press conference on October 21 at the 4e-Art in Tunis to unveil the program and main axes of the 2nd edition of the Tunisian National Theater Festival, "Les Saisons de la Création", scheduled to take place from October 24 to 30 in Tozeur and from November 1 to 8 in Tunis.
A Symbolic Restitution of the Old "Tunisian Theater Week"
As highlighted by the General Director of the TNT, Moez Mrabet, this festival, dedicated exclusively to Tunisian theatrical productions, is a symbolic restitution of the old "Tunisian Theater Week". For the first time since its creation, the festival will open outside of the capital, with the kickoff taking place in Tozeur, which will host the "Theatrical Encounters of the South", the first regional variation of the "Saisons de la Création dans les Régions", in collaboration with the Center for Dramatic and Scenic Arts of Tozeur.
14 Theatrical Works and a Rich Program
Fourteen theatrical works, mostly signed by private companies, are programmed this year, according to Moez Mrabet. The festival will last longer than the previous year, allowing the theater to invest in six delegations of the Tozeur governorate through a series of artistic and scenic performances. The local public will thus be able to experience an unprecedented immersion in the world of contemporary theater.
A Rich and Diverse Program
The opening will take place with music and movement, with a choreographic and musical spectacle bringing together various artistic expressions. In parallel with the performances, a reflection colloquium will enrich this edition on October 25 and 26. Titled "Tunisian Theater: Questions of Identity, Alterity, and Representations of Subjectivity - Towards a Tunisian Theater School?", the colloquium will be moderated by Abdelhalim Massaoudi, who presented the general corpus during the press conference.
"L'Agora des Saisons" and the Competition
In Tunis, between the 4e-Art hall and the Halfaouine Theater Palace, there will be performances, as well as a new program called "L'Agora des Saisons", which takes the form of an open debate space for theater professionals. The menu includes discussions on legislation, working conditions, sector organization, and forms of creation. The goal is to emerge with a common roadmap, adapted to the realities of contemporary Tunisian theater. The competing works will be vying for various prizes, including the Grand Prix de la Création Théâtrale Tunisienne (30,000 dinars), Prix de la Mise en Scène, Prix du Texte Théâtral, Prix de la Scénographie, Prix de l'Interprétation Féminine, and Prix de l'Interprétation Masculine (10,000 dinars each).
Homages and Exhibitions
The 2025 edition of the festival proposes, from November 1, 2025, to January 31, 2026, at the 4e-Art, an exhibition-homage to the visual artist Adel Megdiche (March 6, 1949 - January 27, 2022), in collaboration with the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Macam). Two posthumous homages will be paid to Anouar Chaafi and Fadhel Jaziri, with the latter being the subject of a program of projections of recordings of his main theatrical and cinematic works. His last creation, "Arboun 3", will mark the closing of the event.
Masterclasses and Workshops
The program also includes masterclasses: photography (by Kaïs Ben Ferhat), theatrical video (Mourad Bechikh), and theatrical criticism (by Faouzia El Mezzi). These masterclasses and workshops will provide a unique opportunity for theater professionals and enthusiasts to learn from experienced artists and critics.
