Tunisia's Energy Trade Deficit Decreases by 3% in August 2025

Tunisia's energy trade deficit decreased by 3% at the end of August 2025 compared to the same period in the previous year, reaching 7,550 million dinars compared to 7,775 million dinars.

According to data from the National Observatory of Energy and Mines, energy exports recorded a 37% decline in value at the end of August 2025, accompanied by an 11% decrease in imports compared to the end of August 2024. Meanwhile, the import coverage rate by exports did not exceed 16% during the same period.

It is worth noting that trade exchanges in the energy sector are influenced by three main factors:

  • The quantities exchanged
  • The dollar exchange rate
  • The prices of Brent crude oil, which serves as a reference for the prices of imported and exported crude oil, as well as petroleum products.

During August 2025, the price of Brent crude oil fell by $13 per barrel compared to August 2024, dropping from $83.8 per barrel in August 2024 to $71.2 per barrel in August 2025.
