Tunisian Court Sentences Man to 25 Years in Prison for Kidnapping and Robbing Cancer Patient

A young man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Criminal Chamber of the First Instance Court in Tunis for kidnapping a woman suffering from cancer near a hospital in the capital and stealing her personal belongings at gunpoint.

According to the findings of the security and judicial investigation, the accused had spotted the victim while she was in a vulnerable state near the hospital, requiring assistance. He gained her trust by pretending to help her hail a taxi.

The suspect then lured her to a secluded area, out of sight of passersby, where he produced a knife to threaten and intimidate her. He stole her mobile phone, a sum of money, and jewelry that she kept in her bag.

The prosecution charged the defendant with charges of kidnapping by deception and aggravated robbery with violence against the victim.
