Women's Rights Organization Reveals Alarming Rise in Femicides

The "Voix de Femmes" (Aswat Nisaa) organization has released a statement revealing a disturbing trend of violence against women in Tunisia. According to their report, 22 femicides were recorded between January 1st and September 15th, 2025.

The organization emphasized that "despite the gravity of these numbers, it is likely that the actual number of gender-based murders (femicides) is much higher due to the lack of official statistics."

Methods of Violence

The report highlights the diversity of methods used to commit these crimes, including:

  • 8 cases of stabbings with sharp objects
  • 3 cases of aggression with corrosive substances (burns)
  • 3 cases of murder by direct physical violence
  • 1 horrific crime involving the beheading of a minor, according to the NGO.

Rising Trend of Violence

"Voix de Femmes" has warned of a rising trend in femicides from year to year, with 17 crimes recorded in 2024. The organization believes that the increase to 22 new crimes in less than a year is "a clear indicator of the worsening phenomenon and its transformation into a recurring pattern that threatens the lives of women in Tunisia."
