Rejection of Wealth Tax Article in Finance Bill 2026
The Finance Committee of the Parliament has decided to reject Article 50 of the 2026 Finance Bill, which provided for the introduction of a wealth tax. The measure targeted assets exceeding three million dinars and was expected to generate an estimated revenue of around 11 million dinars per year.
According to Deputy Dhafer Seghiri, a member of the committee, this amount was deemed insufficient considering the technical mechanisms and control means necessary for the implementation of this tax. Furthermore, he warned against potential negative effects on savings and the behavior of depositors.
Despite its rejection in committee, Seghiri indicated that the Ministry of Finance could resubmit this article during the plenary session dedicated to the final vote on the 2026 budget.
