Annual Budget Marathon Kicks Off to Reframe Strategic Priorities
The annual budget marathon commenced last Wednesday to reframe our strategic priorities and allocate the necessary resources. This is a challenging task due to the complexity and magnitude of the established issues, which are being addressed in a difficult and unique context.
Pressing Challenges Require Discipline and Transparency
To address these challenges, our decision-makers should continue to focus on budget discipline, transparency, and accountability for all stakeholders. Our economic architects, as well as our decision-makers, are embarking on a new journey this year, as stated by the Head of Government in her declaration on the 2026 budget bill, towards a "decisive turning point, announcing a relaunch based on progress, development, prosperity, and social justice." This new vision prioritizes the national interest above all considerations.
A New Era of Socioeconomic Development
This marks a new stage that aims to break away from the past and its traditional methods, which often resulted in unbalanced growth, unequal wealth distribution, and disproportionate progress. Hence, the determination to engage in new approaches that guarantee integrated, global, and sustainable socioeconomic development.
Realizing Ambitious Goals through Intelligent Planning
While the mission will not be easy, it is achievable if carried out intelligently, step by step, and at a sustained pace. What fuels optimism is that this ambitious project should take into account a broad and complementary approach. At this stage, our country must further capitalize on programs with its traditional strategic partners, who remain important and useful.
Rebuilding International Confidence
Tunisia has successfully responded to financial priorities and honored its international commitments thanks to rigorous budget discipline, which has earned it the reconquest of international market confidence and the revaluation of its sovereign rating by rating agencies.
Leveraging the Diaspora for Development
Tunisia also relies on its diaspora, which the Head of Government describes as a "strategic ally and important development lever." This is particularly true given the multiple and significant investment opportunities offered to Tunisians living abroad, thanks to their potential, experience, and expertise in the international market.
Financial Valorization
It is essential to recall that, over the past few years, the funds transferred by our diaspora, as well as tourist revenues, have greatly alleviated the state's coffers and contributed to the stability of our foreign exchange reserves.
Increasing Remittances from the Diaspora
The latest report from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT) reveals that, at the end of the first nine months of 2025, remittances from our diaspora amounted to around 6.5 billion dinars, compared to 6 billion during the same period last year. This volume could be much higher if we manage to identify the right formula to revalue and capitalize on it further.
Consolidating Financial Sovereignty
This requirement seems unavoidable, at least necessary, as our country should always rely on its own resources and consolidate "the sovereignty of its choices" to meet the financing needs of its budget.
Key Factors for Successful Budget Management
In addition to this financial issue, which remains a priority, the managers of our budget programs for the next fiscal year must continue to focus on discipline, transparency, cohesion, total involvement in national choices, and accountability for various national stakeholders. These factors have greatly helped our decision-makers to successfully implement their socioeconomic recovery plan throughout the last period.
