Complete Overview of Ligue 1 Clubs' Qualifiable Players for the 2025/2026 Sports Season
The Press — On October 1st, all Ligue 1 clubs are expected to submit their final list of players, which was finalized after the summer transfer market (July 1st to September 20th, 2025) and will be valid until the opening of the winter transfer market (January 2nd to 31st, 2026). This list is limited to thirty (30) professional senior players, with a favor for clubs: players born in 2004, although of senior age, do not count towards the quota of 30 players indicated. Any club that fails to submit this list within the deadline of October 1st will be subject to a fine of ten thousand dinars (10,000 DT) with a seven-day (7) period granted to the defaulting club to submit this list.
In this first part, we will answer the many questions asked about the conditions set by the Professional Football Charter concerning the conditions that clubs must meet in composing this list of 30.
Question 1: What is the maximum number of players to be recruited for the 2025-2026 sports season, whether by permanent transfer or loan?
This number must not exceed ten (10) recruited players aged over 21, except for players born between January 1st and December 31st, 2004, who do not count towards this quota.
Question 2: How many foreign players can a club recruit, qualify, and register on this list?
The number is six (06) foreign players over the age of 21, with the possibility of qualifying a 7th foreign player (1st senior year) on condition that this player was qualified the previous season (2024/2025) in the Espoir or Elite category within the same club.
Question 3: Does the number of six (06) senior foreign players count towards the quota of thirty (30) maximum players to be registered on the list submitted on October 1st?
Yes, senior foreign players are to be taken into consideration when establishing this list.
Question 4: Can Tunisian or foreign players born under 21 be included in this list?
Yes, but as extras, meaning they are not counted towards the quota of 30.
Question 5: What is the fate of players who are still under contract but have been left out of this list?
They remain contractually linked to their club without being able to participate in competitions until the start of the second registration period (January 2026). They will be compensated with the equivalent of three (03) salaries and will be free to choose the club of their choice from July 1st, 2026, for the next season.
Question 6: Can this list of 30 be modified during the season?
Yes, but only during the second registration period (January 2026). However, the club can only replace a maximum of five (05) players who were on the October list, subject to the termination of their contract and the presentation of a quitus justifying the regularization of the financial situation of the players who were subject to termination.
Question 7: What measures and sanctions are provided in case the list sent on October 1st contains more than thirty (30) players?
The Federal Commission of Professional Football will proceed to remove the last names that exceed the quota of 30 and will impose a fine of five thousand dinars (5,000 DT) on the offending club, giving it a period of 10 days to confirm the names it retains as final, provided they have already appeared in the first list established.
