Tunisia Launches National Plan to Combat Stroke

The Tunisian Ministry of Health launched, on Friday, September 12, 2025, a national plan to care for patients who have suffered from cerebral vascular accidents (CVAs or strokes). The goal is to save lives, reduce disabilities, and establish a reference healthcare system focused on quality and equity.

In a statement published on Saturday, September 13, 2025, the ministry specified that in partnership with the European Union, through the "Santé Azziza" program (Health is Precious), a workshop was organized to implement this plan. National and international officials and experts participated in the workshop.

This plan is based on three fundamental principles:

  • Ensuring equal treatment opportunities in all regions of the country
  • Integrating telemedicine and virtual hospitals
  • Mobilizing medical skills to improve services

The ministry also revealed that Tunisia records between 18,000 and 24,000 cases of stroke each year. These accidents are the leading cause of acquired disability and one of the main causes of death in the country.
