Diabetes Affects 15.5% of Tunisians Over 15 Years Old
Approximately 15.5% of Tunisians over the age of 15 suffer from diabetes, a silent disease that is often dangerous due to its sudden onset. This was stated by Dr. Kaïs Kazmir, coordinator of the National Program for the care of diabetic patients at the Ministry of Health.
Dr. Kazmir made this statement during a training day organized in Zaghouan for the benefit of primary care physicians and paramedical staff. He emphasized the importance of early detection and the essential role of primary care in the fight against diabetes. He also stressed the need for regular and rigorous monitoring of patients, as well as accurate recording of the evolution of their health status.
On his part, Nabil Ouerfelli, Deputy Director of Basic Health in Zaghouan, recalled that primary care physicians and paramedical teams constitute the first line of defense against the risks and complications of diabetes. He also affirmed that prevention begins even before birth, particularly through breastfeeding and the adoption of a healthy diet.
